QUINTA DO NOVAL NACIONAL 1967

95/100- James Suckling

A deep ruby with a darker core but no tawny color at all even in the pale pink rim. Nose is extremely aromatic, with an exotic mélange of spices that remind me of a mid-eastern bazar, red currents or perhaps pomegranate, candied rose petals, waxy overtones. Lovely. And in the mouth this delivers everything the stunning nose promised: sweet yet powerful and richly flavored, long on the palate, minerality and acidity to frame the intense flavors and the tannic lift needed to give this an almost sprightly mouthfeel. Lovely stuff!
